Pi Day!!!

Pi Day!!! Pi DAY! March 14th = 3.14 which is the first three digits of Pi. Ophir celebrated with student led lessons, THE PI CHALLENGE, and, of course, pie. 8th grade students led a variety of lessons for elementary students teaching them about the circumference of a circle and the formula used to solve it. They focused on key vocabulary: circumference, diameter and radius. The entire school was presented with THE PI CHALLENGE that encouraged students to memorize as many digits of pi as possible. Our first annual Pi Champion is Ashley Price in 6th grade who memorized 63 digits! At the end of the day middle school students celebrated with pie. Additionally, each student at Ophir decorated a pie plate with a digit of pi totaling 204 digits, check out the MP room to see Pi Ophir Style!

Principal's Corner

Welcome to Ophir School! I am pleased to announce we will be Ophir STEAM Academy in August 2013. STEAM is an acronym for Science, Technology, engineering, Arts/American Sign Language and Mathematics. This is an approach to teaching in which students will become self-reliant learners, innovators, problem solvers, inventors and logical thinkers. In this project based learning environment students will work to create solutions to problems, to gain valuable skills and knowledge, and to learn effective collaboration and critical thinking skills.

Ophir STEAM Academy is a great place for our children to grow and learn!

Sincerely,

Mary Zaun
Principal
