Principal's Corner

Dear Parents,

Last night was a fantastic night as we celebrated the 2014-2015 Open House at Ophir STEAM Academy. We are so proud of our students and all that they have accomplished this year. It was great to see such great community support as we recognized our students’ efforts. Thank you to all the students, parents and staff who participated in this great event.

Our 8th grade students celebrated Open House with the start of their annual Civil War re-enactment on the lower flats. Using the engineering design process to create “time period” tents (in which they camped overnight), the battlefield designs, and the scripts for the “walking museum”, our students put in a tremendous amount of work and persevered to the final culmination of the re-enactment which runs through this afternoon. Our 7th grade students also got in on the action with the production of letters to the 8th grade soldiers and through volunteering to take on additional roles of medics, cemetery caretakers, and battlefield reinforcements. We want to send a special thank you to the middle school teachers and students for putting on an amazing re-enactment. It was a pleasure to be a part of it!

In recognition of Memorial Day, school is not in session on Monday, May 25th. We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend!

Sincerely,

Kevin Roche
