Principal's Corner

Dear Ophir STEAM Academy parents and guardians,

Dear Parents,

Where did the year go?

It is hard to believe that we have reached the end of another school year.

As we head into summer, we want to provide a few reminders for the last week of school.

On Wednesday, May 31st the eighth grade students will be attending their field trip to Sun Splash (9:30am to 3:00 pm). Students must arrive to school and ride the bus in dress code appropriate attire (swimwear must be worn under clothing prior to arrival at Sun Splash). Please check that your child’s swimwear is modest and appropriate. Please be sure to provide your child with sunscreen for the trip. Lunch is included with the field trip, so please do not pack a lunch for your child.

On Thursday, June 1st, eighth grade students will be participating in promotion practice at Del Oro Stadium from 8:45 am to 11:00 am. Please be sure to drop your child off at Del Oro Stadium by 8:30 am. After practice, all students will take the bus back to the school site. The eighth grade promotion ceremony will begin at 7:00 pm at Del Oro Stadium. Promotion will immediately be followed by the promotion dance from 8:00 to 10:30 pm.

In preparation for promotion, please be sure to review the dress code guidelines for the promotion ceremony and dance. For details regarding promotion dress code please refer to the link below:

On Thursday, June 1st, we will be holding our annual Play Day activities. Please be reminded that students must wear dress code appropriate shoes (no flip flops). They may wear water friendly shoes such as sandals and water shoes, as long as they have a back strap. Students should wear water friendly clothing. If a child chooses to wear a swimsuit, they must be worn under their clothes. Clothing must cover up the swimsuits at all times. Students may bring squirt water bottles, but no water guns or super soaker type toys. Please encourage students to bring towels and a change of clothing. We are expecting a hot and sunny day, so please apply sunscreen on your children before school.

Friday, June 2nd is the last day of school. Students will be released at 11:55 am.

We also want to take this opportunity to thank all students, staff and parents for a tremendous school year. We have accomplished many great things as a school including, but not limited to, the growth of our STEAM program through the continued growth and implementation of technology within the classrooms (chrome books, iPad, Blue-Bots, Ozobots, Lego Mindstorms and Linkbots) and beginning the transition from our school computer lab to an engineering design lab, the fantastic schoolwide events, not to mention the amazing work being produced by our students on a daily basis.

It has been a fun-filled and memorable year, and we are looking forward to an even better 2017-2018 school year.

We hope everyone has a safe, relaxing and enjoyable summer, and we look forward to seeing all of our students on August 10th for the first day of school.

Have a great 3-day weekend!
