Principal's Corner

Dear Families,

The end of the year is right around the corner, and we have several important events in the next few weeks!

Mark your calendars! Open House is on Thursday, May 23rd from 6:00-7:30. Come out and see all the amazing work that our students have completed. We will also be holding our annual Civil War Reenactment on the lower flats. We hope you can join the eighth grade in this culminating activity. Not only have they been studying the historical aspects of the Civil War, but they have also utilized their knowledge of mathematics and the engineering design process to brainstorm, create and test their designs of civil war tents.

The eight grade Ophir Ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, May 30th at 5:00 pm. We want to encourage all eighth grade families to attend this special night of celebration and recognition of our eighth grade students.

On Monday, June 3rd, the eighth grade students will be attending their field trip to SunSplash (9:30am to 3:00 pm). Students must arrive to school and ride the bus in dress code appropriate attire (swimwear must be worn under clothing prior to arrival at SunSplash). Please check that your child’s swimwear is modest and appropriate. Please be sure to provide your child with sunscreen for the trip. Lunch is included with the field trip, so please do not pack a lunch for your child.

On Tuesday, June 4th, eighth grade students will be participating in promotion practice at Del Oro Stadium from 8:45 am to 11:00 am. Please be sure to drop your child off at Del Oro Stadium by 8:30 am. After practice, all students will take the bus back to the school site. The eighth grade promotion ceremony will begin at 7:00 pm at Del Oro Stadium. Promotion will immediately be followed by the promotion dance from 8:00 to 10:30 pm.
In preparation for promotion, please click here to review the dress code guidelines for the promotion ceremony and dance.

On Tuesday, June 4th, we will be holding our annual Play Day activities. Please be reminded that students must wear dress code appropriate shoes (no flip flops). They may wear water friendly shoes such as sandals and water shoes, as long as they have a back strap. Students should wear water friendly clothing. If a child chooses to wear a swimsuit, they must be worn under their clothes. Clothing must cover up the swimsuits at all times. Students may bring squirt water bottles, but no water guns or super soaker type toys. Please encourage students to bring towels and a change of clothing. We are expecting a hot and sunny day, so please apply sunscreen on your children before school. As a reminder, Ophir Play Day is only for currently enrolled Ophir students. Siblings and younger children may not attend this event.

Next Wednesday, May 22nd, is a minimum day and students will be released at 12:05 pm. In observance of Memorial Day, school will not in session on Monday, May 27th. Our last day of school is Wednesday, June 5th, and students will be released at 12:05 pm.
